General Information for the Graduates of 2026

Caps and Gowns

Caps and gowns will be distributed on Tuesday, May 19th.  Students will receive a link to sign up for an appointment time through SignUpGenius.  We will also take their photo to be used during the graduation ceremony so we urge students to come prepared to be photographed.

This is the only day we will be set up for caps and gowns and photos so it is important that students sign up and show up for their appointment.  The link to sign up will be sent to student emails on May 5 and the link will be open until May 15th. Seniors are urged to choose an appointment time right away while there are still many choices available.

While all seniors will get a cap and gown and we will take their photo, this does not mean that they are cleared to participate in graduation.  Students must have the required number of credits in the correct areas to participate in the ceremony.  Specific information about a student’s credits will be communicated by the counselors.

Fees and graduation tickets

There is NO charge for caps and gowns and there is NO graduation fee. There is NO charge for tickets to graduation although tickets will be limited to 6 per senior. No one will be admitted to the ceremony without a ticket.

Prom

Prom is Friday, May 1.  Tickets will be on sale April 21-28 – tickets are $70 per person (cash only) and will only be sold to juniors and seniors.

Students will be allowed to bring one outside guest after successfully completing the process for bringing an outside guest and having their request approved.  Forms are available in room 324 and at the welcome desk. Guests will also need a ticket.

Obligations

Students should check with the media center to see if they have any books to return.  Technology should be returned when seniors have finished their credits.

Senior Last Day

The last day for seniors is Tuesday, June 2nd.  Seniors MUST attend the graduation practice that day at 9:30 in the Edison Auditorium.  Tickets will be distributed later that day.  Tickets will NOT be available at the graduation practice.

Seniors are welcome to continue to attend classes after June 2nd if they wish to improve their grades, but credits need to be completed by May 28th.

Commencement Rehearsal

Seniors are required to attend graduation practice on Tuesday, June 2nd   in the Edison auditorium. Students will get their seating for graduation and practice for the ceremony.  All seniors need to attend. Final information on meeting at the Royalston Square on graduation day will be shared at this time. Practice is only open to seniors – no family or friends should accompany them to practice please. Seniors should NOT dress up or bring their cap and gown to practice!

Graduation Ticket distribution

Seniors will receive their graduation tickets after attending the graduation practice on Tuesday, June 2.  Seniors will receive 6 guest tickets and one participant ticket for the graduate to use. Do not lose these tickets- there are NO replacements available.

Commencement Ceremony

Seniors should arrive at the Royalston Square on Saturday, June 6 at noon. Allow time to get through security!  The graduation ceremony begins at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 6 at the Royalston Square.  The ceremony is approximately 60 minutes long.  The ceremony will be livestreamed for family and friends that are unable to attend.  More information will be shared closer to the event. The livestream link will be published on the Edison Webpage.

This event is open to people with tickets only.  Tickets will be distributed after graduation practice on June 2.  This is a new venue for us and we urge guests to arrive with enough time to get through the metal detectors and other security.  The venue does not allow balloons in the event space; we are also asking that airhorns and other loud noisemakers be left at home.  We have several students graduating with noise sensitivity and we want them to feel comfortable at their graduation ceremony.

Parking information will be sent home with seniors at cap and gown distribution (if we have received it) and at graduation practice.

Graduation Photos and video

There will be a professional photographer taking pictures of students at graduation. Seniors will receive a proof of their photos and an opportunity to purchase the photos in their personal email in 1-2 weeks after the ceremony.  The photos will come from GradImages.

The entire ceremony will be livestreamed and the video will play on the Minneapolis Public Schools cable channel and links will be available to watch it with captions and translations a few days after the event.  Watch the Edison Web page for the livestream link and the links to the videos.

Diplomas

Diplomas are not available until Monday, June 8.  Seniors may pick up their diploma OR we will mail the diploma home.  Instructions and times available for pick up will be sent home with seniors with their caps and gowns AND after graduation practice. Seniors will be asked to update their address before graduation to send updates and diplomas to the correct address.  More information will be shared closer to the event.

Gold Honors Cords & Tassels

Highest honors cords and honors tassels will be distributed at cap and gown pick up so students can wear them in their photo. Students will need to keep them and wear them again at the graduation ceremony.

Other Graduation Regalia

Students are not allowed to alter their cap or gown before the graduation ceremony.  The only regalia (stoles, cords, decorations) allowed in the ceremony are provided by or sponsored by Minneapolis Public Schools activities or groups.  Contact Edison Administration (612- 668-1300) if you have any questions or concerns about decorations or regalia.
