David Salzer
"The past is only the future with the lights turned on."
"If history is to be creative, to anticipate a possible future without denying the past, it should, I believe, emphasize new possibilities by disclosing those hidden episodes of the past when, even if in brief flashes, people showed their ability to resist, to join together, and occasionally to win." Howard Zinn

About Me
My name is Dave Salzer and while this will be my seventh year at Thomas Edison High School I am entering my fourteenth year of teaching HS Social Studies. Prior to my years at Edison, I had been teaching 10th US History and 11th and 12th grade Sociology at St. Michael-Albertville. Before my five years at STMA I taught in rural Minnesota, in the small town of Big Fork. While in Big Fork I taught 7th grade American Studies, 10th grade US History, 11th grade World History, 12th grade Economics, Personal Finances, Current Events, and a History through Music course.
In both Big Fork and STMA I was activily involved in a variety of sports and activities including, football, track and field, National History Day, Improv Club, and some student leadership groups known as Students UKnighted and Captains Council.
This year at Edison I will be teaching 12th grade Government, and a community partnership class with Speak Minneapolis Studios. I also coach football in the fall. During the Summer I help run the "Tommie Fit" program in the weightroom.
I live in NE Minneapolis with my wife Calee, twin boys Sonny and Truman, and my dog Pepper. I love teaching and coaching in the neighborhood!
